The Libraries Act celebrated 100 years in March, 2007.  The act was passed March 15, 1907, in the First Legislative Assembly of Alberta.

In honour of this, the Public Libary Services Branch is collecting information, pictures, histories and stories to help us celebrate the achievements in public library service development.

We are gathering histories and photographs of the public libraries (past and present) that are open now in Alberta.
It is a work in progress.  Please help us by sending in your story.

100 Legends in Public Library Service

100 Legends in Public Library Service (PDF)

This list is just a beginning to a wealth of information and stories to come.  The first piece of information is a list of 100 dedicated people who have helped to build public library service in Alberta.

Other areas of interest will be added as documents are received.

We are asking you to participate in this endeavour by sending us your stories/histories, suggestions and pictures of your libraries to add to this page.  Please send your contribution to Bonnie Gray at bonnie.gray@gov.ab.ca or 780-427-4871 for further information (dial 310-0000 for toll-free access in Alberta).
