Policies and Bylaws: A Guide for Alberta Public Library Boards

The Public Library Services Branch (PSLB) is pleased to announce the release of a new resource for public library boards: Policies and Bylaws: A Guide for Alberta Library Boards.

This document includes general information and a process for creating policies and bylaws, plus specific information on the ten policies required under the Libraries Regulation, including templates and discussion points.  It also contains summaries of other legislation that Alberta public library boards must comply with, including who to contact for more information about this legislation.

This document is intended for trustees who have attended PLSB board training, and boards who are writing or updating their policies and bylaws.  This document aims to be simple, straightforward and practical, in order to help boards meet their legal requirements.

Every library board in Alberta will be receiving a hard copy of this document.  Additional hard copies are available from  PLSB by emailing Karen Petch at libraries@gov.ab.ca or calling toll-free 310-0000 then 780-427-4871. It is also available for download on the Policies and Bylaws pages of our website.
