Emergency Management Amendment Act Engagement
The Government of Alberta is proposing changes to Alberta’s emergency management framework.
Bill 8, the Emergency Management Amendment Act, 2018 was introduced in the Legislature on April 3, 2018. Debate on the legislation was held over until the fall sitting of the Legislature. The proposed changes in Bill 8 will address identified gaps in the framework and help emergency management partners adapt to Alberta’s changing risk landscape.
To strengthen Bill 8, the Alberta Emergency Management Agency is hosting engagement sessions with stakeholders on the proposed amendments and the development of the new Local Authorities Emergency Management Regulation.
The engagement sessions will include an overview of Bill 8 and proposed requirements for the new Local Authority Emergency Management Regulation, followed by an opportunity for session attendees to circulate between stations where they will hear more about proposed changes by topic and have an opportunity to provide their input.
The morning sessions will be for municipal elected officials to attend and provide input, while the afternoon sessions are for municipal administrative staff.
Please note the timing of the sessions, and that only light snacks and refreshments will be available. Lunch will not be provided.
