Localized Disaster and Emergency Operations

Description

Compensation may be provided to a local authority for loss or damage caused by a localized disaster. A localized disaster is defined as a disaster:

  • that has threatened the economic viability of a small number of people, businesses, or municipalities, 
  • that has caused damage or loss for which insurance was not readily and reasonably available before the disaster occurred, and;
  • the cause of which was extraordinary.

A local authority may also apply for compensation for costs incurred in conducting emergency operations.
