Which municipalities and organizations host interns

The municipalities and organizations that host interns each year varies from year to year. The Municipal Internship Program invites municipalities, planning agencies and growth management boards to submit an application to host an intern each year. Through a selection process, the municipalities and organizations that meet certain criteria are selected to host interns for the following year.

It is important to note that due to the high population found in Calgary and Edmonton, the two cities are not eligible to host municipal interns and therefore, no internship positions under the Alberta Municipal Internship Program will be offered for these cities.

To see which municipalities and organizations have hosted interns in the past, please see our Past Hosts page.

Tips for Applicants

Applicants to the Municipal Internship Program are encouraged to research the municipalities and organizations as applicants will be required to choose the hosts that they would like to be considered by. The hosts you select do not affect whether or not your application is short-listed as there is no maximum number of applications that are sent to any one host. If your application is shortlisted, it will be sent to all of the hosts you have selected.

You are strongly encouraged to research each host you are interested in. Only select those hosts in areas that you would be willing to move to. Consider such things as: size of municipality, location, cost of living, nearby amenities and housing availability.
