Multiplex and Daycare Facilities - Town of Canmore

Mayor Ron Casey, Premier Ed Stelmach, MLA Janis Tarchuk, and Chief Administrative Officer Don Kochan (left to right) officially kick off two MSI new projects in Canmore.

The Canmore Multiplex will feature an aquatics centre, climbing centre, library, and multipurpose community spaces.

The aquatics centre will have a 25 m - 8 lane pool, leisure pool, lazy river, large and small water slides, steam room, hot tub, locker rooms and showers, and on-deck multi-purpose rooms. The community library will include a multipurpose room, technology area, children's collection and story area, and collection space. The climbing centre will have more than 7000 sq. ft. of climbing surface with wall heights from 15-45 ft. The community space includes a gallery for the Canmore Arts & Artisans Guild, fitness amenities, multipurpose rooms, community atrium with performance stage, and much more.

The Canmore Multiplex was designed to reflect the various degrees of use by tourists, non-permanent residents, and permanent residents.  It will function as a venue for large gatherings or competitions, a gateway to more lasting relationships in the community, and a place for neighours and friends to extend their daily interactions.

The town is also receiving $1.3 million from the MSI program for the daycare and preschool at the Lawrence Grassi Middle School site.Supporting the daycare-preschool is an investment in Canmore’s infrastructure and in the future of the community.

These are the two latest examples of MSI funding at work in Canmore, but MSI has been building this community since the program began back in 2007.The town has requested MSI funding for a variety of projects and the government has supported those local priorities. In addition to the multiplex and daycare, Canmore has used MSI funding to install energy efficiency upgrades in municipal-owned affordable housing units; rehabilitate roads and sewers; help pay for the operation of the library; and for the operating costs of the Canmore Community Housing Corporation.
