Energy Efficiency and the Alberta Building Code

Protecting our environment is an important priority. When consulted to help develop the province’s 2008 Climate Change Strategy, Albertans said they want to take action against climate change and ensure the province is doing its part to reduce greenhouse gas emissions entering our atmosphere.
Based on this feedback, the Government of Alberta would like to introduce new energy efficiency requirements for homes and other buildings in Alberta. We have prepared a series of questions for our stakeholders on this subject, and their feedback will be instrumental in helping us develop the right strategy to make homes in our province greener.

If you would like a full copy of our information and consultation workbook which contains all the questions asked in our online survey, you can download a PDF here.
The consultation will conclude on November 30, 2009.
Once we have gathered the responses to this survey, we will prepare proposed changes to the Alberta Building Code in co-operation with the Safety Codes Council. Stakeholders and the public will have the opportunity to comment on these proposed changes in 2010.
